Eboue's transfer on hold after 'abnormal blood value results' found in medical

Emmanuel Eboue's move to Northern Cypriot team Türk Ocağı Limasol is on hold after abnormal blood values were found during his medical, understands. The 34-year-old former Arsenal and Galatasaray defender, who was punished by FIFA with a year's ban in 2016 after failing to pay his ex-agent €1 million in fees, had been maintaining his fitness in Hungary as he stepped up his search for a new club. Goal spoke to intermediary Tekin Birinci, who brokered Eboue's move to Limasol, and he made it clear that no HIV diagnosis has been confirmed yet, contrary to reports in the Turkish media. "They found abnormal blood values so they didn't issue the licence and we took the decision to send him to England to have medical check-ups there. "It's wrong to say at this point he has HIV. Turkish news reports are wrong. I made it [Eboue’s situation] clear two days ago. Even if it will be true it shouldn't be published like that." Eboue has previously admi...

LACAZETTE VIEW ABOUT PREMIER LEAGUE REFREEING

Arsenal's record signing Alexandre Lacazette has admitted that he feels Premier League refereeing can be dangerous as he continues to adapt to life in English football. A clinical and prolific goalscorer in Ligue 1 with Lyon, fans and pundits wondered whether the striker's form would translate after his move to the Emirates, given the physical nature of the Premier League. “I have not totally adapted yet, there are things that still surprise me, but I am trying,” the 26-year-old Frenchman told SFR Sport. “I've watched quite a few matches to understand English football. “I watch quite a lot of my matches with Arsenal and when I look back and see what I didn’t do right, I try to learn from it, which hopefully facilitates my progression. “The refereeing decisions [still surprise me]. Sometimes I think it is a bit dangerous. “But then I see that nobody is shocked, so I tell myself it must be normal.” Read full article here

Stanislav Petrov, who averted possible nuclear war, dies at 77

A former Soviet military officer credited with averting a possible nuclear disaster at the peak of the Cold War has died at the age of 77. Stanislav Petrov was on duty at a Russian nuclear early warning centre in 1983 when computers wrongly detected incoming missiles from the US. Although his training dictated he should contact the Soviet military immediately, Petrov instead called the duty officer at army headquarters and reported a system malfunction. Petrov, who retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel, died on 19 May but news of his passing became widely known only this month, thanks to a chance phone call. German film-maker Karl Schumacher, who first brought Petrov's story to an international audience, telephoned him to wish him a happy birthday on 7 September only to be informed by his son, Dmitry Petrov, that he had passed away. Internet shutdowns raise free speech concerns in India

Government interference with Indians' internet usage has risen steadily in recent years, leading to fears authorities are attempting to curb free speech, digital advocacy groups say. An increase in internet shutdowns since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office in 2014 has raised questions about online rights under his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Government officials ordered 42 internet shutdowns between January and August, compared to six times in all of 2014, according to data from the New Delhi-based advocacy group Software Freedom Law Centre (SFLC). Nalin Kohli, a national spokesperson for the BJP, said suspending access to the internet was acceptable in cases "where rumour-mongering or motivated misinformation could lead to the incitement of violence". Previous bans on mobile internet services in Indian-administered Kashmir, where about 100 people have died in clashes since a separatist commander was killed in July 2016, were condemned by the Office of the...

Ancient Maya King Found in 'Centipede Dynasty' Tomb

As researchers were wrapping up excavations in El Perú Waka’, a small settlement in northern Guatemala, one scientist unexpectedly found the hidden bones of an ancient Maya ruler. “He accidentally came into the foot of that tomb, and there they stared at the bones of the king,” said research co-director David Freidel. The team of archaeologists and anthropologists from the El Perú Waka’ Archaeological Project then proceeded to call in the Guatemalan army to secure the region—standard procedure to prevent looting, Freidel said. The remains are a male, buried “head to the east, wrapped in textile, and placed on top of his offering vessels,” said Freidel. All of those are signs of the figure’s importance, leading the team to conclude that this was a member of the ruling class. Read more
