Leicester defiant over Mahrez

Leicester City will not sell Riyad Mahrez to Roma or any other club until their demands are met, Craig Shakespeare has said. Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare insists they will not sell Riyad Mahrez until a "reasonable" offer is made. The Algeria international is wanted by Roma but the Serie A side are reported to have seen a second bid in the region of €35million rejected. Roma sporting director Monchi suggested this week that they would move on to other targets if Leicester continue to rebuff their attempts to sign the winger. Shakespeare says he wants to keep his best players wherever possible and has made it clear that they will not allow Mahrez to leave unless their demands are met. "The transfer window can get silly if you let it," he told a news conference ahead of Leicester's Premier League opener against Arsenal on Friday. "We don't want to be a selling club. We want to be a buying club, bringing in players. "That means

From being dismissed by his team after battling cancer... to saving them from relegation in 1 year

'I returned to England after my operation and, a month and a half after getting back to training, the coach told me to find a new club'. Jonas Gutierrez has much appreciation for Newcastle while despising the club's directives after enduring the worst time of his life. In July 2013, medical services at Newcastle United gave Jonas Gutierrez some harsh news: he had a tumour on his right testicle and needed an imminent surgical intervention. 'I left the doctor's office crying. The first thing I did was tell my father that they wanted to operate on me', said the player, who automatically returned to his native Argentina to surround himself with his family at such a hard time. He underwent surgery and the orchiectomy was a success. After months of rehabilitation, he returned to Newcastle, where he was welcomed with open arms... by almost everybody. In November, he returned to the training ground to get back in shape, and days later the Magpies boss Alan Pard

Modric set to sit out first leg of Spanish Super Cup

The Croatian midfielder was sent off in Real's last appearance in the Spanish Super Cup and will therefore miss this year's edition through suspension Modric is not one of the usual suspects when it comes to collecting cards. Nevertheless, in Real's last outing in the competition in 2014, the former Tottenham man saw red as Real slipped to defeat aginst City rivals Atletico in the second leg at the Vicente Calderon. Real lost that Super Cup and lost something much more precious at the same time: Modric's availability this time round. As this is Real's first outing in the Super Cup since Modric's red, this is the game he misses, despite it being three years since his indiscretion. A such the 30-year-old will be forced to watch the game at home like the rest of us. Modric's unavailability comes at the worst possible time for Zinedine Zidane's side, ahead of a highly-anticipated clash against arch-rivals Barcelona. It does however, open the door

Atletico Madrid drop huge Costa hint

The Chelsea star is desperate to return to Simeone's team and looks to have engineered a move back as the Spanish club make shock revelation. Diego Costa has been left in the cold by Antonio Conte, and as the Spain international looks for a way back to Madrid, Atletico's chief executive insisted Simeone's side will make one more signing. The La Liga outfit are currently serving a transfer ban, which means their first signing Vitolo will be loaned out to Las Palmas until he can play at Atletico in January. A similar situation could happen to Diego Costa as Atletico Madrid chief executive Miguel Angel Marin explained: 'The ban of registering players this summer market affects us in that the two players that we wanted to hire, because there were only two, will have to join us with five months of delay'. The second player is most likely the Chelsea striker who will have to find a team to play for until January. The Atletico chief also defended the Argentine ma

Liverpool ease into Audi Cup Final

Liverpool will play Atletico Madrid in the final of the Audi Cup after Jurgen Klopp’s side ran out comfortable 3-0 winners against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena. Neither team had really had chance to settle when Sadio Mane opened the scoring for Liverpool after just 7 minutes. The Senegalese was played in by Roberto Firmino after the Brazilian won the ball back on halfway and the former Southampton man raced past his man on the edge of the box before planting a left-footed effort back across Ulreich and into the far corner. Liverpool almost doubled their lead just minutes later, Moreno scampered away down the left and crossed early to the back post for Salah. The Egyptian hit it first time, aiming low at the near post but Ulreich saved well. In response David Alaba fired a 30 yard free-kick just wide before Thomas Muller attempted to restore parity with a fizzing drive from long range but his effort was always rising. Bayern were forced into a change after 21 minutes w
